FMP, Week 7.

Week 7
·        Altered sleeve and collar pattern pieces
·        Started playing around with the bow detail – sew bow on to the front?, draping around neck?, coming from seam?
·        Created pattern pieces and sewed a bow onto the front – wasn’t successful – looked too masculine – bow tie effect, wasn’t the look I was going for
·        Cut pattern pieces out for a bow to tie around the neck in chiffon to get the same effect when I come to make the real garment – sewed up and put onto dress – still didn’t look very effective – had a discussion with tutor – decided that it looked best being sewn onto the sides of the collar with belt loops and pearls and then being tied into a bow at the front to get a high end Prada look to it – very successful – really like it
·        Ordered fabrics – James Hare silk and chiffon – expensive - £114!!
·        Spoke with tutor about toile – looked at the collar and sleeve – still needed to be changed
·        Unpinned collar, drafted a new pattern, cut out in calico and sewed onto toile again as the collar pulled upwards at the back of the neckline -  still didn’t work – re-done again – had to re-do pattern 5 times to get it correct – found that when I done the collar pattern, I needed to make the neckline less extreme as it pulled the fabric up too much at the back – lowered line down and re-done collar again – worked this time! Had to be very persistent with it – looks very smart now and doesn’t pull up at the back
·        Unpinned one sleeve from the toile and drafted a new pattern and cut out in calico ready to sew onto the toile again to see if the sleeve fits properly this time
·        Bought fabric lining!
